Residential buildings over six storeys high across Ireland will undergo new fire safety tests.

The Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy has confirmed the checks will take place nationwide in the wake of the Grenfell tower block blaze in London.

A new task force has been created to carry out an assessment of Ireland's fire safety systems, in the wake of the Grenfell Tower disaster.

The assessments have already started in Ireland.

The Task Force consists of senior representatives from national and local government as well as Dublin's Chief Fire Officer.

Announcing the task force Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy said tests are being extended countrywide, on cladding on residential buildings over 6 storeys.
