Irishman stabbed in Portugal during attempted robbery
An Irishman has been stabbed at a Portuguese holiday resort, it has been confirmed by Portugese police.
The victim was knifed during an attempted robbery by two men.
The two men attempted to steal the victim's watch but he resisted.
It is thought the man was with a friend when the altercation occurred.
The incident took place at Praia da Rocha, near Portimao at around 5am Sunday morning.
The Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade have said they aware of the case and stands ready to provide assistance if requested.
The Policia Judiciaria has said the man was stabbed in the arm and taken to a hospital in Lisbon for treatment.
The injury, although initially serious due to loss of blood, is no longer life threatening following treatment.
A spokesperson for the Policia Judiciaria have said they are investigating the case.
