Manslaughter charge for woman who killed her boyfriend

A woman has been found guilty of killing her boyfriend in Dublin.

46-year-old Norma Philips stabbed Stefan Neanu once in the chest at her home at Phibsboro Road, Dublin 7 in April 2015.

When Gardaí arrived at her apartment on the night of April 11th 2015, Norma Philips was said to be in a “distressed state”.

Her boyfriend Stefan Neanu was lying on her bed but was able to get up and walk outside with paramedics. He died in hospital a few hours later.

A post mortem established he’d been stabbed in the chest and the blade had pierced his heart. A knife with his blood on it was found inside the flat.

When asked what happened, Ms. Philips initially told Gardaí he’d been attacked by an intruder but later said she’d acted in self-defence.

Following seven hours of deliberations, the jury cleared her of murder this afternoon but found her guilty of manslaughter.

Ms. Philips gave out an initial sigh of relief when she realised she’d been acquitted of the murder charge and began to cry afterwards.

She’s due back in court next Monday for her sentence hearing.
