All serving members of the Defence Forces will receive a 1916 Centenary Commemorative Medal this year.

The medals will be presented at 11 different ceremony's around the country over the coming weeks - including one today at Dublin Castle.

Minister with Responsibility for Defence is Paul Kehoe: “Any member who served in the Irish Defence Forces between January 1, 2016 and December 31, 2016, will receive this very special commorative medal.

“This is a very important ceremony today in Dublin Castle where it will be attended by the President and the Tanaiste as well as myself,

“And I am very much looking forward to meeting the members of the irish Defence Forces over the coming weeks while I present this medal at 11 different locations across the country.
