Government commits to accepting 200 child refugees from Calais

The Irish Government has formally commits to accepting up to 200 unaccompanied child refugees from Calais.

The commitment came as the Dáil accepted a motion on the closure of the former 'jungle' camp in the French coastal town.

The motion also calls for additional state services for refugees, and for a coherent national programme on the subject.

Ireland has so far relocated 109 refugees from Greece, who have travelled there fleeing from the Middle East.
