Over 137,000 smuggled cigarettes seized in Dublin raids
Over 137,000 smuggled cigarettes have been seized in raids at Dublin Airport and Ferry Port.
28,700 Marlboro Gold were discovered at Dublin Port on Sunday morning during a routine examination of a refrigerated truck arriving from Lithuania.
The driver, a Lithuanian man in his mid 30s, was questioned, and the truck was seized and later released after payment of a penalty.
On Sunday night, Revenue officers at Dublin Airport seized over 108,000 smuggled cigarettes from 22 passengers arriving from Moldova.
Revenue says the seizures represent a potential loss to the Exchequer of over €60,000.
