Man dies in workplace accident in Cork

A man has died in a workplace accident in Co. Cork.

It happened at around 1.30am this morning at an industrial premises at Little Island.

The 35-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene - which has been preserved for a technical examination.

A Garda investigation has been launched and the Health and Safety Authority notified.

In a statement this morning, Architectural and Metal Systems (AMS) confirmed that a fatal accident had occurred at its Little Island plant earlier.

"Early this morning, September 14, 2016, in our premises at Wallingstown, Little Island, a tragic accident occurred which resulted in the death of one of our colleagues," it said.

"There is a garda and HSA investigation on-going at the moment.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time."
