A climber has been taken to hospital after suffering a suspected heart attack on Croagh Patrick.

More than 25,000 people are expected to climb the mountain today for the annual Reek Sunday Pilgrimage.

The Mayo mountain is more than 700m high, and many will attempt the ascent barefoot.

The climb takes around two hours. Mass will be celebrated in the chapel at the summit.

Keelan Moran from the Order of Malta said it was very important to come properly equipped with plenty of clothes, raingear and good walking boots or shoes.

He advised to remember plenty of water too, and snacks for the climb.
