A charity worker has begun an epic bid to become the first swimmer in almost 90 years to cross a 13-mile stretch of sea between two coastal beauty spots off Ireland's north coast.

Mother-of-two Heather Clatworthy, 34, is hoping to emerge from the Atlantic as only the second ever person to traverse the waves between the idyllic Stroove beach on Co Donegal's Inishowen peninsula and the seaside resort of Portstewart in Co Derry.
