First Census results reveal population growth

Ireland's population has grown to more than 4.75 million, according to Census 2016.

First Census results reveal population growth
  • There were 4,757,976 people in Ireland on Census night – a increase of 198,282, or 3.7%.
  • The population increased in every county except Donegal, Mayo and Sligo.
  • There is one TD for every 30,114 people, above the constitutional limit of 30,000.
  • The number of occupied households increased by 49,285, while the number of vacant dwellings (excl. holiday homes) fell by 31,698.
