Vigil in Dublin for Orlando shooting victims

A vigil is taking place in Dublin city centre this evening to remember the victims of yesterday's mass shooting at a gay nightclub in Florida.

A book of condolence has been opened at Dublin's Mansion House, and a vigil is being held beside City Hall this evening, from 6.45pm.

Brian Sheehan of the Gay and Lesbian Equality Network (GLEN) said Ireland's LGBT community is reeling from shock.

"An attack of that scale and awfulness is felt by LGBT people across the world, and no less in Ireland," he said.

"We are united in being a minority group in society and when that kind of attack happens...in a venue and a space that has always been a sanctuary for us, I think LGBT people, our families, our friends, and all Irish people want to express their solidarity."

A book of condolence will be opened tomorrow morning in Cork's City Hall, where a US flag is flying this evening.
