Boy 'critical' in hospital after falling off motorcycle in Kerry

A teenage boy from Kerry is in a critical condition in hospital after sustaining serious head injuries after coming off a motorcycle this afternoon, writes David Raleigh.

The 16-year old, originally from Asdee, but living in Tarbert, came off the motorbike near his home shortly after 2pm.

According to Gardaí, the youth was travelling alone on the bike at the time when it crashed on the Ferry Road outside Tarbert, around 2.30pm.

Garda Forensic Collision Investigators are at the scene, and are carrying out a technical examination, and "taking measurements" at the roadside, a Garda spokesman said.

The spokesman described the crash as a "single vehicle accident".

"He was airlifted from the scene to University Hospital Limerick," the Garda added.

A hospital source said the boy was aged 16 and a half years old and is in a "critical condition".

The boy is expected to be transferred to Cork University Hospital for specialised treatment, according to the source.

Gardaí at Listowel are investigating the incident, however it's believed to have been a tragic accident.
