Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to a fatal road traffic accident in Co Monaghan.

A man in his 50s died yesterday in Castleblaney when his car left the road and crashed into a wooden fence.

The incident happened at Drumcrew, on the N2 road at approximately 4pm.

The man, who was the driver of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.

A female passenger in the car was uninjured.
