Three in custody as investigation into David Byrne murder continues

Three men remain in custody as part of the investigation into the murder of David Byrne – who was shot dead at the Regency hotel in Dublin.

Yesterday, Patrick Hutch of Champions Avenue, Dublin 1 became the first person to be charged with his murder.

David Byrne died after being shot a number of times at a boxing weigh-in at the Regency hotel in February.

Patrick Hutch is a brother of Gary Hutch, who was murdered in Spain last September.

It is believed his murder sparked a feud between two gangs that has now claimed the lives of six men.

After five days of questioning, Patrick Hutch was yesterday brought under armed guard before a special sitting of Dublin District Court.

Judge Hugh O’Donnell heard he made no reply after the murder charge was put to him.

The 24-year-old was given free legal aid and remanded in custody to appear in court again next week.

He will have to go to the High Court if he wants to apply for bail.
