Talks underway between Intel Ireland and staff about job cuts

Talks are said to be underway between Intel Ireland and its staff about job cuts at the company.

It's feared up to 400 positions are to be lost at the tech giant's operations here.

The job losses are likely to be across all the company's plants in Ireland, in Leixlip, Cork and Shannon.

Fianna Fáil's jobs spokesperson Dara Calleary says is calling for focused supports for workers.

"We need to sit down and ensure that the economy continues to be as competitive as possible.

"I think if a new Government takes office we have to be conscious of our costs in terms of insurance costs, energy costs, costs which are beginning to go out of sync.

"Unless we deal with them unfortunately there will be more redundancies as companies attempt to cut costs."
