Government 'transferring post office business to private banks', say protesting postmasters

Postmasters have staged a protest outside the Department of Social Protection today, accusing the Government of deliberately trying to “shut them down”.

Postmasters claim the Department of Social Protection is trying to shut them down after a change in payments policy.

The Department has written to 40,000 part-time or casual workers telling them they will be getting their payments via bank transfer in future.
