A Status Orange rain alert is in place for Cork, where between 40 and 70 millimetres is expected, with heaviest rain along the south coast and in mountainous areas.

In Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford, between 25 and 50 millimetres of rainfall is forecast.

The weather alerts will be in place until 6am on Monday morning.

Cork County Council have issued a flood warning for Cork city as they expect a tidal surge and high spring tides to coincide with the heavy rainfall.

The council warned that there is a danger of flooding in the city prior to and after high tide tomorrow morning with flooding possible in the low-lying areas of the city centre.

They have warned householders and businesses to take measures to protect their property.
