Police in the North have launched a murder investigation after the death of a 52-year-old prison officer, yesterday.

Adrian Ismay who suffered serious leg injuries in a bomb attack in Belfast 12 days ago, died of a suspected heart attack yesterday.

Detectives from the serious crime branch made the decision to launch a murder investigation, after a post mortem examination.

The PM concluded that Mr Ismay died as a result of injuries sustained after a bomb exploded under his van on March 5.

Mr Ismay's family have been informed of the development.
