Primary school teachers vote overwhelmingly in favour of industrial action

Primary school teachers have voted by 97% in favour of industrial action over the ban on promotions and increasing workloads.

The INTO is seeking an end to the eight year ban on promotions in primary schools and the re-instatement of promoted posts which were lost since 2008.

The teachers will stop all involvement with the Department of Education's on-going programme of school self-evaluation.

A directive on non-cooperation will issue to teachers in coming days.
