PSNI appeal for information after bomb is defused in Derry overnight

A bomb has been found in Derry overnight.

The viable explosive device was recovered during a security alert in the Gelvin Gardens area of the city at about 5pm last evening.

A number of residents were evacuated while security forces examined the scene, and the device was made safe a short time later.

A forensic examination will now be carried out and the PSNI is appealing to anyone with information to contact them.
