Programme to help newly qualified teachers launched today

A new programme to official welcome new teachers into the sector is being launched today.

The Droichead scheme aims to give young teachers more supports as they begin their new careers.

The Teaching Council has said it has created the initiative in consultation with the ESRI.

CEO Tomás Ó Ruairc, has said he believes it is an important step: “We as a council are the statutory professional standards body for teaching our remit is very much in the era of professional standards.

“This programme of induction is very much about enhancing the welcome, support and guidance, that newly qualified teachers receive from their colleagues, once they commence their career as a teacher.”
