Mars has recalled several chocolate bars here in Ireland as a precautionary step after a piece of plastic was found in one of their products.

Funsize Mars bars, Milky Way, Mixed Variety packs and Celebrations are being recalled.

Chocolate bars made by Mars in the Netherlands are being recalled as a precautionary measure due to the possibility of plastic contamination.

The recall here concerns Celebrations chocolates, Funsize variety bags, Funsize Mars and Milkyway bags with specific best before dates.

Mars has had to take the step of recalling chocolate bars in 55 countries following what it says is "an isolated incident".

The plastic, if ingested, could be a choking hazard.

In a statement, the company said no complaints have been received in Ireland, but asked consumers who have the affected products not to eat them and to contact them on 1890 812 315.

The Irish recall concerns only the products below with the following best before dates that were manufactured in the Netherlands and distributed in Ireland:

FUNSIZE MILKY WAY 227G - Best before date: 02.10.2016
