200 workers 'shocked and angry' as Brinks Ireland to end cash-in-transit business

Brinks Ireland is ending its cash-in-transit operations by the end of July, with the loss of 200 jobs.

The jobs will go at the company's bases in Dublin, Cork and Galway.

The union SIPTU is condemning the decision, and has welcomed the intervention of the employment minister Jed Nash.

Brendan Carr of SIPTU said the company had signalled that the jobs were safe only a few weeks ago.

"We're disappointed and shocked. There's a lot of anger from the workers too," he said.

"Only as recently as last month, we had finalised an agreement with the company which was to ensure the future of the company in Ireland."
