Ruth Coppinger: We want to be the ones to bring Joan Burton down
One of Joan Burton's constituency rivals says she hopes to be the candidate who "takes out" the Tánaiste's seat.
Ruth Coppinger said her reception on doorsteps in Dublin West leads her to believe the Labour leader's Dáil seat is at risk.
She was speaking as the Anti-Austerity Alliance/People Before Profit launched its General Election campaign this afternoon.
She said voters would find it difficult to forgive Labour for their actions over the last five years.
"Obviously we hope that we are the party to bring Joan Burton down," she said.
"The treachery of the Labour Party goes beyond anything that has existed before in terms of the promises that they made and the role that they played in government."
