Cabinet signs off on legislation to repeal out of date laws

The Cabinet has approved legislation to repeal out of date laws enacted between 1922 and 1950.
A total of 294 Acts will be repealed by the Statute Law Revisions Bill, however it is not expected to go through the Oireachtas until after the election.
Among the laws to be repealed is the Public Safety Emergency Powers Act 1923 - which allows for the death penalty or penal servitude to be imposed on anyone involved in an armed revolt against the State.
Another includes requiring Oireachtas members to take an oath to King George and his successors and the Spanish Civil War non-intervention Act of 1937.
