Secondary school teachers to strike over poor pay and employment security

Members of the TUI are being backed by students in strike action over pay and security for young workers.

Secondary school teachers will hold a day of strike action before the general election.

They say the poor pay and employment security for young teachers is forcing many of them into income poverty.

And that is something Deputy President of the Union of Students in Ireland Annie Hoey has said students can understand: “Students I think on the ground have an air of sympathy toward that.

“They may have family members who are affected by working conditions and stuff like that.

“I think we would certainly find with our members there is certainly a small level of understanding about why they have to do this.”
