Junior Doctors at University Hospital Limerick to strike over nonpayment

Junior Doctors at University Hospital Limerick are to engage in Industrial action.

It is amid a dispute over payment for overtime already worked by the interns.

The IMO has said it remains open to negotiations - but that the action will go ahead if its members are not paid.

Their spokesperson, Eric Young, has explained the situation: “We’ve held a ballot for industrial action of interns working at University Hospital Limerick,

“The hospital has refused to pay doctors for hours worked, a dispute that is going back to last November,

“And the hospital has so far failed to engage in terms of finding a meaningful solution to the issue,

“In essence, doctors have worked hours in excess of their roster and the hospital has refused to pay them even though it is directly provided for in their contract.”
