Bia Food and Lidl set up food donation programme in Cork

A food donation programme is being launched for Cork city and county.

The initiative, which aims to support those affected by food poverty, is being run by Bia Food with the help of the supermarket chain Lidl.

The shop will donate surplus food from participating stores in Co. Cork to 55 charities who work with people affected by poverty.

The programme is the first of its kind in Munster, and an extension of the scheme that Lidl runs with Crosscare in Dublin.

Caitriona McCarry, communications manager at Lidl, said the company is ‘delighted’ to start the campaign in Cork.
