The coastguard helicopter is circling the River Lee in Cork this afternoon as part of the search for a missing pensioner.

63-year-old Thomas Rawley from Bishopstown disappeared on the December 22.

He was last seen in the vicinity of South Main Street.

Gardaí have made repeated appeals to the public for information on his whereabouts.

The chopper was launched this morning and is due to continue surveillance along both sides of the river, as far as Blackpool, until lunchtime.
