County Clare GPs are considering running a candidate for election

GPs could decide to run a general election candidate in Co Clare, in a bid to make supports for rural doctors a key election issue.

Over 500 people including doctors and politicians gathered last night at a No Doctor, No Village campaign meeting in Corofin.

They're demanding that key supports for rural GPs be re-instated within 2 weeks, instead of at the end of on-going talks on a new GP contract.

A nationwide campaign is gathering around the issue according to GP Dr Liam Glynn from Ballyvaughan. “We have used all the democratic means that we have available to us except one and that is running a candidate in the general election and making this an election issue.

“And this is something that we as a group of GPs in Clare are giving serious thought to and I know there are groups of other rural GPs in many other rural counties at the moment, considering exactly the same thing.”
