Gay Byrne suffers heart attack

Broadcasting legend Gay Byrne has suffered a heart attack.

RTÉ has confirmed the former Late Late host took ill on Monday.

In a statement issued RTÉ have said "All his friends and colleagues across RTE are thinking of him and wish him all the best with his recovery.”

He is now recovering in hospital and his family have asked for privacy.

This is not the first time Gay has experienced health issues in recent years, in 2011 he was rushed to hospital as he found himself unable to breathe.

Mr Byrne has just enjoyed a Christmas at home with his family.
