Older people encouraged to ask for help over Christmas

ALONE is encouraging older people to ask for help over the Christmas period.

The organisation, which helps older people living at home who are suffering from loneliness or poverty, has said more than a third of people over the age of 65 live on their own.

They are also encouraging people to check in with older friends and relatives this Christmas.

CEO of ALONE Sean Moynihan, has said making contact with neighbours and friends helps to prevent loneliness: “For older people who are on their own and may be isolated we ask them to reach out to their friends, neighbours friends or relations

“Or to people like ALONE to make sure they don’t feel the pain of loneliness and to try and rebuild a life and if they are in trouble to reach out to ALONE and we wil try to provide support all year round not just at Christmas.”
