A man has died in a crash in County Westmeath this evening.

A man has died in a crash in County Westmeath this evening.

The man in his 70s was the driver of a car involved in a two car collision in the village of Ballinalack at about 3.30pm.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his remains have been removed to the Midlands Regional Hospital Mullingar for a post mortem examination.

The man is the 12th person to have died on Ireland's roads in the last nine days.

The driver of the second car has been removed to hospital with minor injuries.
