UK Border Force 'seizing Irish trucks' in search for migrants
Irish hauliers say they are under increasing pressure from migrants seeking to illegally board their vehicles at the French port of Calais.
The IRHA say its members continue to receive huge fines from the UK Border Force when migrants are detected in trucks.
Today the Irish Road Haulage Association is holding an emergency meeting with the Minister for Transport Paschal Donohoe calling on the Government to take urgent action.
Verona Murphy, President of the Irish Road Haulage Association, said: "I'm calling on the minister to negotiate with his political counterparts in the UK.
"They have been speaking with the UK Border Force for the past three months, and there has been no progress that we can see.
"If anything the situation has deteriorated given that they are seizing Irish trucks."
