Dáil introduces bill to jail anyone for 10 years who deliberately rams Garda car
New legislation has been introduced to the Dáil to increase the penalties for ramming Garda cars.
The bill would mean a 10-year jail term for anyone who deliberately causes a collision with a Garda vehicle.
It has been tabled by Fine Gael's Brendan Griffin, who says 244 Garda cars were rammed between 2010 and 2013.
He says an attack on Gardaí is an attack on the State.
Mr Griffin said: "We need do everything possible to provide as much of a deterrent as possible to eliminate this risk.
"It is probably an ideal thing to say this, to say you could eliminate this, but certainly I think we need to reduce the possibility of this happening."
