Gardaí confirm death of teenage girl rescued from Hook Head on Sunday

A teenage girl from Dublin, who was injured at Hook Head in Co Wexford last weekend, has died.

The girl was one of two teenagers who were winched to safety by the rescue helicopter after they were swept out to sea by a freak wave.

They had found the teenagers, winched them on board and brought them to Waterpark Rugby Club.

They were then transferred by ambulance to University Hospital Waterford.

The girl's condition was described as critical at the time.

Gardaí have this afternoon confirmed that the teenage girl has died.

The Air Accident Investigation Unit has launched an investigation into the incident and made an appeal earlier this week to any members of the public with video footage of the resuce to come forward.
