Revenue has reached settlements with tax defaulters worth almost €54m, in the first nine months of the year.

In the period from January to September, 278 people were singled out for not declaring or underdeclaring their tax.

Today's edition of Iris Oifiguil contains the names, addresses and occupations of those who failed to file a tax return, sold cigarettes illegally or fell foul of Revenue for other licensing matters.

Revenue also published the details of those who have reached a settlement with them for paying too little or no tax at all.

Ice cream vendors, publicans, property developers and landlords are among those who owe more than €1m in taxes and penalties.

Landlord Alan Miller, with an address at Stepaside in Dublin and publican Billy O'Flynn from Mallow in Co Cork owe Revenue almost €3.1m each for underdeclaring tax.

Samuel Raymond of Bellinter in Navan, who sells sweets and ice-cream, also received a hefty bill of €1.03m.
