Ruairi Quinn: Divestment of schools in some areas “shamefully slow”

He said baptising a child just to get them into a school is an abuse of the sacrament, but parents who do not want their children to attend religious schools have a right to see their wish respected.
Ruairi Quinn set up the process of divestment while he was Education Minister and he has said the “determination” is not there for the Catholic authorities.
“The divestment in areas where surveys were undertaken has been shamefully slow,” said Quinn.
“That’s because the Catholic authorities simply do not have the determination or the commitment to provide for pluralism in the way that Diarmaid Martin has.”
