Why is the M50 so busy?

Traffic on Dublin's M50 motorway is growing at 10 times the European average.

Data from traffic counter cameras seen by the Sunday Business Post shows that average daily traffic volumes have increased by 10.34% since 2013.

In the last year alone, daily traffic volume has grown 6.9% on the route.

The increase is far in excess of what is generally experienced on major roads elsewhere.

Figures form the European Commission show that on average, traffic grows at between 0.6% and 1% per annum.
