Pension packet not yet agreed for IFA's former General Secretary

The Acting President of the Irish Farmer's Association has said the pension package for Pat Smith has not yet been agreed.

It is rumoured that the former General Secretary could walk away with a €2m pension after he resigned amid controversy over his pay.

The Association will hold another emergency meeting of its executive in Dublin today to discuss the ongoing issue.

IFA President Eddie Downey has stepped back from the role while a review is carried out.

Acting President Tim O'Leary has said negotiations on a final package for Pat Smith are ongoing: “There has been no agreement reached, no finalised agreement reached on this package.

“I think it is governed by very strong labour law, we have duties to our employees here, and we will be fair and just to all bodies in this negotiation.”
