Tayto tops poll of food missed by Irish emigrants

Irish emigrants miss Tayto crisps more than any other food, according to a new poll.

A survey has found that Cadbury's chocolate and Kerrygold Butter are also tastes the Irish pine for when abroad.

When it comes to tea, Barry's and Lyons are missed by an equal number of people, according to the poll carried out for Checkout Magazine by Behaviour and Attitudes.

Checkout editor Stephen Wynn Jones says the Irish are quite nationalistic when it comes to food and drink.

"Stout is always one that comes up at the top of that," he said.

"Obviously, the old adage that Guinness doesn't travel well still lingers with some people.

"Other product categories that are really favoured include meat products. Two thirds of respondents said that the bacon and rashers they can get in Ireland are better than anywhere else in the world.

"58% said that the milk we have here is better than what's available elsewhere, compared to just 8% that says that milk from overseas is of higher quality.

"So I think we've a lot to be proud of in terms of our food quality, and that's really brought to life in this report."

The survey included 546 respondents, in two groups.
