Eight arrests have been made by gardaí under Operation Trivium which is targetting criminal gangs from foreign countries operating here.

Eight arrests have been made by gardaí under Operation Trivium which is targeting criminal gangs from foreign countries operating here.

Over the next 24 hours, numerous checkpoints will be set up around the country as part of the pan European operation.

So far, 13 vehicles have been seized.

Gardaí have described the operation as "a multi-agency road policing operation designed to tackle foreign national offenders and indigenous travelling criminals who utilise the road network to target local communities, many of whom are part of organised criminal gangs".
