A 27-year-old man has died following yesterday afternoon's serious assault in Navan, Co Meath, gardaí have confirmed.

A 27-year-old man has died following yesterday afternoon's serious assault in Navan, Co Meath, gardaí have confirmed.

The deceased man has been named as Christopher Nevin.

A post mortem will take place at the mortuary at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda tomorrow.

The incident occurred at around 2.15pm yesterday at Tailtean Road, Winetown, Navan.

The victim was seriously injured in an altercation with a number of other men.

The men then got into a silver car which drove off in the direction of the town centre.

Mr Nevin was later taken by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda.

A scene has been preserved at Tailteann Road in Navan.

Gardaí in Navan are appealing for witnesses, anyone who was on the Tailtean Road or in the vicinity of Winetown between 1.50pm and 2.30pm yesterday, or anyone who may have any information to contact them on 046 9079930, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
