Gale force winds have hit many parts of the country overnight, with the west and north-west the worst affected.

Gale force winds have hit many parts of the country overnight, with the west and north-west the worst affected.

Met Eireann says a Status Yellow wind warning is in place until later this morning.

There have been gales of up to 65 kilometres per hour and these have hit 100 kilometres per hour in some counties along the west coast.

The wind warning was set for Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Clare and Kerry.
