Fishing vessel crew investigated over work permits

An investigation has been launched after a crew on board a fishing vessel was arrested in the Irish sea last night.

It is understood the inquiry surrounds work permit issues.

They were detained after the LÉ Orla came across the boat when out on a routine fisheries protection patrol yesterday afternoon.

The approximately half a dozen crew members remain in Garda custody.

The fishing industry has been under the media spotlight this week following allegations of poor treatment of illegal workers on board boats.
