Alan Kelly denies any vested interest in opposing rent cap

The Environment Minister Alan Kelly has denied that there are any vested interests interrupting the negotiations on measures to deal with rent.

Alan Kelly was responding to queries from Sinn Féin, which has questioned the personal interests of Fine Gael members.

Yesterday Gerry Adams pointed out that 24 Fine Gael TDs and Senators are landlords and asked whether this was the reason they opposed plans to cap the cost of rent.

But Alan Kelly has said that is not the case and if it was he would not stand for it

"In relation to vested interests in any way shape or form, I would not tolerate that one bit," Mr Kelly said.

"I am not under the guise or the control of any form of vested interests etc."
