Batch of children's muesli recalled amid fears of insect contamination

A batch of muesli for children is being recalled due to a possible insect contamination.

Cow & Gate Ireland is recalling its Sunny Start My First Banana Muesli.

The batch affected has a "best before" date of September 27 and is designed for babies from 10 months on.

Point-of-sale recall notices will be displayed in stores that may have sold the affected batch.

The company described the move as a "precautionary measure".

"The recall is in response to a small number of complaints regarding an insect found in the pack," the company stated on its Facebook page.

It added: "We are very sorry that this has happened and would like to reassure parents that we maintain strict standards at our factory and we are committed to providing the highest quality products. We have launched an immediate investigation and we will be taking all necessary steps to prevent this happening again.

"Parents can return packs to the store where purchased or contact Cow & Gate for a refund.

"No other Cow & Gate products are affected."
