The affected areas are Clontarf, Merrion Gates, Sandymount Strand, and along the river Dodder.

High tide is expected to reach its peak at about 10.30 tonight.

Engineer with the Flood Advisory Office at Dublin City Council Gerard O'Connell has said the flood gates were closed as a precautionary measure.

“We are only in the yellow zone (Met Éireann warning level) so we are just doing it for precautionary reasons,” said O'Connell.
