Two men have died in separate tragedies in Co Clare in the past 24 hours.

A man in his 50s died this evening after he became trapped in a dumper truck near Fanore in the north of the county.

The man had been working on the vehicle when the bucket collapsed on top of him.

Ambulances paramedics and fire crews from Ennistymon responded to the incident, but the man as pronounced dead at the scene.

His body has been removed to University Hospital Limerick for a postmortem.

The incident is not being investigated by the Health and Safety Authority.

Last night, a popular and active community man died tragically in an accident at his home near Doonbeg.

The 54-year-old suffered fatal injuries while operating a rotary mower on land at his home at Shragh.

Both tragedies are being investigated by the HSA and An Garda Síochána, while the county coroner has also been informed.
