Cars should have tracking devices says Cork TD

Cork TD Noel Harrington is calling for all cars to be fitted with tracking devices.

The technology should make it easier to find vehicles which are reported stolen.

Fine Gael TD for Cork South West, Noel Harrington has said stolen cars are often used to commit crimes and trackers would help Gardaí to trace them

“Typically criminals don’t use their own cars to go to crime scenes, they steal cars,” Mr Harrington said.

“I think the technology exists so we have to get a legal framework to allow manufacturers to put some kind of tracking devices to that when cars are stolen and on reporting to Gardaí, that the Gardaí would have technology available to electronically track and monitor those cars.”
